Freshman Ceaton Pennewell tackles a Brookfield Bulldog, stopping the play. The Panthers defensive line put the pressure on Brookfield making it hard to gain yards throughout the entire game.

The Monroe City Panthers hosted the Brookfield Bulldogs Friday, September 6 at Lankford Field. The Panthers met the Bulldogs on the field with intentions of not repeating their upset the week before, gaining a 30-14 victory win.

The first quarter opened with Brookfield winning the coin toss. The Panthers kicked to the receiving Bulldogs, who would be stopped with Monroe City’s Senior Dalton McAfee on the first play of the game. The Monroe City defensive line continued throughout the entire game keeping the Bulldogs from gaining much ground by keeping them from the end zone.

Senior Max Hays, kicks to Brookfield, to start the game against the Bulldogs. The Panthers gained their first victory of the 2019 season  at the  first home game.

Offensively the Panthers worked together finding the end zone to keep the winning lead on the scoreboard. Quarterback Freshman Kyle Hays worked to find his players down the field throwing the football to make complete passes and gain yards for the team.

Head Coach David Kirby stated, “I’m very proud of how the guys bounced back after a week one loss.  We executed our game plan much better.  Hopefully, we continue to improve every week.”

Monroe City will host Highland Friday, September 13 with kick-off set for 7 p.m.
