The Monroe City Boys’ track team traveled to Lathrop on May 11, to compete in the Class 2 Sectional 4 track and field competition. The MC Panthers placed second overall with 103 points, just seven points behind Lathrop with 110. The Monroe City Panthers will travel to Jefferson City High School for the 2019 MSHSAA State Track and Field Championship on May 17- 18 with seven athletes competing in nine different events. Head Coach David Kirby stated, “Sectionals was a good day for the boys. I am very happy with how all our athletes competed at Sectionals. We qualified athletes in the following events 4x200, 4x400, Javelin, Triple Jump, Long Jump, 200, 400, 1600, 3200.”
Senior, Blake Hays qualified for four different events at the state level and will be entering the 4x200, 4x400, 200 meter race and the 400 meter race. Kaelin Kendrick-O’Bryan will be entering two events in long distance competing for a state title in the 1600 meter race and the 3200 meter race.
In relays, the 4x200 meter relay team of Zach Osborn, Keenan Batsell, C.E. Talton and Blake Hays will enter the state competition with their fastest time being 1:31:37 this season. For the 4x400, Osborn, C.E. Talton, Josiah Talton and Hays will run for a chance at a state medal, with their fasted time this season being 3:28:42.
In events, Dalton McAfee will be throwing Javelin, C.E. Talton will enter both the Long Jump and Triple Jump, with Osborn and Josiah Talton both entering the Triple Jump as well.
Coach Kirby shared about moving on to the state competition, stating, “Our athletes are very excited about the opportunity to perform at State. We will have a great week of practice and the kids will do their absolute best this weekend.”
