Pictured above: Local couple Matt Troxell and Abbie Power competed in the tournament winning first place trophies in the singles division on Sunday, August 18 in Quincy, IL at the fourth annual Battle of the Bags tournament.

The fourth Annual Battle of the Bags Tournament was held in Quincy, IL. The three-day tournament was hosted at the Oakley Lindsay Center to raise money for the non-for-profit organization Quincy Bay Area restoration and enhancement association (QBAREA). Local couple Matt Troxell and Abbie Power competed in the tournament winning first place trophies in the singles division.

Troxell placed first in the men’s single division, while Power placed first in the single women’s division on Sunday for the City Champions. During this competition, competitors had to live within a 50-mile radius. Troxell also placed first in competitive singles and second in doubles on Saturday.

Several local residents competed in the three-day competition. Others winning were: Clint Bottoms and Brian Hawkins, placed first in doubles in two different competitions during the tournament, Competitive Doubles and the City Championship. Hawkins also placed first Friday evening in the Blind Draw Competition, while Bottoms placed second and Kevin Holliday placed third in the Blind Draw Competition against 32 teams. Michael Speaks placed first place in social singles on Saturday.

The tournament is known as Quincy’s largest cornhole and city championship drawing players together throughout the surrounding area for three days of competition. The tournament held eight different competitions for the weekend players to compete in.
