Monroe City Lady Panthers hosted Centralia on September 20, defeating Centralia 9-8 in the evening contest, after taking the lead late in the game. Monroe City trailed 8-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Mackenzie Moss homered on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs. Head Coach explained the game as a team effort, stating, “This was a total team effort. We were down 8-2 and the girls just kept fighting. They hit their pitcher pretty well thought out the game but we needed to string something together. I was proud of how we came together as a team, got the hits we needed and backed up the pitcher on defense. Great team win.”
Centralia got things started in the first inning scoring two runs, with Monroe City unable to find their way around the bases. During the second and third innings Monroe City would add two runs to the score, one being a home run from Carly Youngblood. Centralia rallied back with three runs in the fourth inning and Monroe City came up empty.
Monroe City Panthers tallied four runs in the fifth inning gaining the momentum needed to finish strong, leaving them trailing by only two runs. The offensive firepower led by C. Youngblood and Moss, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Audri Youngblood pitched for four innings, allowing six runs on six hits and striking out two. Kailynn Fuemmeler finished the game on the pitching mound, for the remaining three innings with four strikeouts.
The Lady Panthers had 11 hits in the game including C. Youngblood, A. Youngblood, Lucy Pratt, Moss, and Jacie Johnson each had multiple hits.
