The Lake Gazette was founded in April of 1997, by journalist Linda Geist. The first edition was printed on Wednesday, April 2, 1997.
The newspaper started with three employees. Linda Geist as writer, selling advertising and composing advertising pages. Linda Stinson as the photojournalist and part-time administrative assistant was Lisa Minor. Russell McCoy took the sports pictures for the newspaper. Del Buckman did the farm flyover and continues to do them each week as he has for the last 20 years by volunteering his time, photographs and airplane.
The newspaper office opened at 205 W. Dover St. and later moved to 217 N. Main St. which was destroyed by the March 2006 Tornado. This caused the newspaper to go back to 205 W. Dover St. until later purchasing its current location at 304 S. Main St.
Russell McCoy took the sports pictures for the newspaper.
In 2011, Linda Geist sold the Lake Gazette to Lakeway Publishers based out of Morristown, TN and is still owned by the company today. Currently the Lake Gazette has five employees. Consetta Gottman serves as Publisher, General Manager/Advertising Sales, Mandi Kindhart is the News Reporter, Abbie Power is the bookkeeper and Hannah Davis is composition.
Since the publication of the first addition the newspaper has updated with the change of times adding the newspaper website, an online newspaper, Facebook page, Twitter and You Tube. It is the Lake Gazette’s goal to bring the community the area news in a tasteful and informing manner, keeping the public aware of necessary public safety announcements and interesting facts of upcoming and past events.
