Vernon E. Massey, 89, of Hannibal, passed away Saturday, October 12, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal.
He was born March 07, 1930 in Indian Creek, the son of Samuel H. and Lottie K. Kumm Massey.
Vernon was raised of the Catholic faith. He was a graduate of Monroe City High School, Monroe City, Missouri. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad as Department Head of Communications before his retirement. Vernon was a “jack of all trades” he could fix anything. He enjoyed working on old cars and Ballroom Dancing. Most of all Vernon enjoyed spending time at his building in Monroe City. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Survivors include two sons Kevin E. Massey of Gulf Breeze, Florida and Steven K. Massey of Hannibal. Two daughters Rebecca L. Cleveland of Port Charlotte, Florida and Charlotta (Kathy) Krause (Paul) of Montgomery, Illinois. One brother Samuel Massey (Mildred) of Quincy, Illinois. Also survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucille Mudd Massey, one daughter Cheryl Massey Davis.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 19, at the Garner Funeral Chapel, Monroe City, Rev. Steve Goughnour will officiate. Graveside services will be held at the St. Jude Cemetery, Monroe City. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. Saturday until time of services at the Garner Funeral Home, Monroe City. Pallbearers will be Kevin Massey, Howard Mudd, Nick Mudd, Jamie Mudd and Ed Cochran. Memorials have been suggested to the Monroe City Nutrition Center, Monroe City.
