Ruth Margaret Purol, 98 of rural Marion County, near Monroe City, passed away Thursday, October 01, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal.
She was born November 24, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Elmer U. and Margaret Kronsnoble Bright.
Ruth was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Monroe City, Missouri. She was a graduate of Downers Grove High School, Downers Grove, Illinois. Ruth worked as a Postal Clerk for the United States Post Office in Lisle, Illinois for many years before moving to Missouri. Ruth shared her many talents by serving as a leader for the Stone 4-H teaching sewing. She also taught religion classes at Holy Rosary School for many years. She had very fond memories of sewing for the Sisters of Holy Rosary School. She had found memories of the Priest coming to the family farm to go fishing, hunting and staying for a hot cup of coffee and eating some of her wonderful cookies. Ruth’s family from the city loved coming to “the farm” and the loving community they now call home. Ruth was an avid gardener, cook and seamstress. She loved to read especially her her favorite book the bible and play cards in her spare time, but more than anything she loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. After caring for her husband Ray for many years, Ruth volunteered at the Holy Rosary Library, (until the age of 92) reading to the children and helping them pick out books. She was also a member of the D of I and adoration chapel. She also enjoyed being with family and friends playing cards. Growing up in Chicago area Ruth had many cherished stories of growing up with her 6 siblings and many cousins.
She married Raymond A. Purol, June 06, 1945 and he preceded her in death March 07, 2001.
Survivors include one daughter Judy Hedges of Munster, Indiana and three sons: Joe Purol (Marie), Raymond Purol (Renee) and Rick Purol (Mary) all of Monroe City. Her pride and joy her grandchildren Steve (April) Hedges, Greg Hedges, Terri Amos (Kieth), Michael (Carrie) Purol, Mellisa (Nolan) Nichols, Katie Foster, Betsy (Mike) Misbauer, Debbie (Dustin) Chitwood, Jessy (Laura) Geist, Mandy (Bob) Carmean and Rich Purol. She also survived by 19 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers Daniel, William and Elmer Bright; 2 sisters Leah Kline and Jean Auten; and son in law Paul Hedges.
Funeral mass were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 05, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Monroe City, Fr. Greg Oligschlaeger will officiate. Burial will be held at the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Monroe City. Visitation was at 9 a.m. Monday morning until time of services at the Holy Rosary Church. Active pallbearers were Steve Hedges, Greg Hedges, Michael Purol, Keith Amos, Mike Misbauer, Dustin Chitwood, Jessy Geist, Bob Carmean and Rich Purol. Honorary pallbearers were Terri Amos, Mellisa Nichols, Katie Foster, Mandy Carmean, Betsy Misbauer, Debbie Chitwood, Mary Drebes and Jack Jones. Memorials have been suggested to the Holy Rosary School Building Fund or the Rev. Jim Baker Ministries.
