Janene Kay Thompson, 55 of Monroe City, passed away Saturday, January 16, at the Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Illinois.
She was born October 14, 1965 in Hannibal, the daughter of Walter Lee and Helen Martine Sparks Behring.
Jan taught at Monroe City R-1 School District, Monroe City, for 20 years. She had a passion for teaching young students. She was known for her infectious smile and tremendous faith in God. She enjoyed collecting snoopy and hatching monarch butterflies, and following the wild horses of Sand Wash Basin, (most of all she loved being a mother). Jan was a 1984 graduate of Monroe City High School, and received her teaching certificate NMSU, Kirksville. She is a member of Prairie View Baptist Church and taught vacation bible school every summer. Monroe City may be a black and gold town, but it will turn blue to support Jan. We will be wearing our blue shirts to visitation and invite you to wear yours too.
She married Adam Thompson on May 10, 2001, he survives of the home. Also surviving are two sons Janson Mudd and Conner Thompson. Siblings John (Lynda) Behring, Mary Lou (David) Smith, Roller Behring, Buckshot Behring, Gale (Richelle) Behring, Laura Parsons and twin Gene (Guyla) Behring. Aunt Madelyn White, in-laws Larry Smith, Johnny Bill and Janie Thompson, Pete Thompson, Kevin (Rita) Thompson, Kara (Curt) Lehenbauer, Jamie Thompson, several nieces, nephews, cousins and her close supporter and son Janson’s grandmother Cele Spalding.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Connie Smith and nephew Kelly Behring.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, January 21, at the Monroe City First Baptist Church. Visitation will follow from 3 until 7 p.m. at the Church. Memorials have been suggested to her son Conner Thompson’s education fund or Vals Pals (a cancer support group), Palmyra.
