Doris was born December 26, 1929 in Shelby County to Harry Milo Gordan and Mayme Lillian LeGrand Gordan.

She was married to Clifford Eugene Copenhaver on April 8, 1949 in Clarence. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2016.

Survivors include one daughter, Cathy (Arnold) Burditt of Hunnewell; one son, Jerry (Sherry) Copenhaver of Hunnewell; four grandchildren, Scott (Margaret) Burditt, Michael Copenhaver, Lance (Jodie) Burditt, Kelly (Shawn) Wood; seven great-grandchildren, Meg Burditt, Peter Burditt, Mikayla Wood, Joselyn Wood, Olliver Wood, Julia Burditt and Laurel Burditt, and numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She was also preceded in death by five brothers: James, Glenn, Kenneth, Lloyd, and Harold Gordan and one sister, Louise Harrison.

Doris was a caring and giving person which was shown in many forms throughout her lifetime, whether it was raising her children on the family farm or playing cards and doing jig saw puzzles with grandchildren. For many years she was known for the countless and amazing meals prepared for family and friends. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and, of course, the pies were just a few specialties. Over the years, Doris would tend to her garden and enjoyed canning.

An avid reader, Doris read a wide array of books. She read so many that perhaps some would be read multiple times. Doris also liked embroidery, the Hallmark Channel, doing word search and watching the St. Louis Cardinals; even knowing about the players’ families and what they had going on in their life, showing her caring spirit yet again.

Later in life, Doris’s home became the Monroe City Manor Care Center where she formed lasting friendships with caregivers and residents and truly saw them as her extended family. Doris gave sincere love to all her family and received the same in return.

Doris was a member of Monroe City United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School for many years.

Pallbearers will be Scott Burditt, Michael Copenhaver, Lance Burditt, Shawn Wood, Tyler Mudd and Keith Mudd.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Meg Burditt, Peter Burditt, Mikayla Wood, Joselyn Wood, Olliver Wood, Julia Burditt and Laurel Burditt.
