The Monroe City Fire Department, Monroe City Ambulance, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to a motor vehicle crash involving two tractor-trailers on Thursday, October 29 at approximately 4:20 p.m. The accident blocked traffic on the roadway in the left lanes of those traveling both eastbound and westbound on US Highway 36 for approximately five hours.

A 2019 Volvo, driven by Alton McKinnon, of Collins, Georgia, was traveling westbound on US Highway 36. The Volvo struck a 1995 International in the rear of the truck, which was being driven by Brian Meranda, of Center, who was also westbound on US Highway 36. The crash caused the two tractor-trailers to travel off of the left side of the roadway. The Volvo crossed the median, totaling the vehicle, and came to rest in the eastbound lanes of US Highway 36. McKinnon and his passenger, Eureka McKinnon, were both transferred to Hannibal Regional Hospital for minor injuries. Meranda was able to drive from the scene with moderate damage to his vehicle.
