In the early morning hours of July 17, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Officer Brian Walters arrested Eric Louis Madden, age 20, of Stoutsville, on four investigative charges of Minor in Possession, Unlawful use of a Weapon, Possession of Controlled Substance except 35 grams or less of Marijuana/Synthetic Cannabinoid and Delivery of Controlled Substance except 35 grams or less of Marijuana or Synthetic Cannabinoid.
Monroe City Police Chief Tyler Wheeler stated, "The probable cause for the stop was speed (46 mph in a 35 mph zone). While making contact with the driver, Eric Madden, Monroe City, Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search incident to arrest was performed on the vehicle due to reasonable suspicion of the smell. A large amount of Marijuana (approximately 13.8 ounces or 393 grams) was located inside the vehicle. Other items found were marijuana wax/shatter, alcohol, drug paraphernalia and a loaded handgun containing a high capacity magazine." The traffic stop was initiated near South Main and Lawn Street.
Madden was taken into custody for the above investigative charges and was transported to the Police Department for booking purposes. Madden was then transported to the Monroe County Jail on a 24 hour investigative hold pending charges from the Monroe County Prosecutors Office. Bail has not been set at this time.
