The Monroe City basketball season is only a few short weeks away. The new season will welcome players and their fans to the high school gymnasium with a fresh new look. The gym floor shines brightly with a new color scheme, which is eye catching and professionally detailed. MCHS Boys’ Basketball Head Coach Brock Edris shared, “The floor looks very sharp. Our players love it and can’t wait to play on it this winter.”
High School floors are usually refinished every summer because of the wear and tear during the school year. That means they will lightly screen the floor and apply a new coat of finish or sealer for the school year. About every 8-10 years, the entire floor should be sanded down, repainted and sealed.
Edris explained, “This summer MCHS had the floor repainted and was able to add our new Panther logo to the floor and change some of the color schemes.” The color schemes include dark and light grays, along with the traditional Monroe City black and golds, giving the floor a new modern look compared to the traditional wooden floors.
Along with the floor, the gymnasium will add a new video board which was made possible by donations from six local generous businesses. Edris stated, “This video board will be used for sporting events, assemblies, graduations, and provide the opportunity for our students to work with digital media in cooperation with not only our school but our community businesses.” MCHS plans to eventually offer advertisement opportunities on the video board. This video board will work in addition to current scoreboards. Edris added, “When other communities come to Monroe City to enjoy an event we want to showcase our students, school, and our community support for all to see.” Those helping make this video board possible are Hassard Elevator, G.C. Potterfield Trucking, Jimmy O’Donnell Life Celebration Home, Rickett’s Farm Supply, HNB Bank, and Oswald-Crow Agency, along with help from the Monroe City Booster Club for the financial support of this video board.
