A death investigation was prompted in Monroe County, after deputies responded to a call on December 10.

Monroe County Chief Deputy Joe Colston released the following information:

At approximately 8:37 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, Monroe County deputies responded to 11140 Route ZZ in Santa Fe, Missouri in reference to a report of two persons at a residence that were believed to be deceased.  Upon arrival deputies found a male and female subject both deceased within the home.  Both subjects lived at the residence where they were located.  The death investigation is ongoing.

The deceased have been identified as 49 year old Ami Allison Clayton of Santa Fe, Missouri and 49 year old Jewell William Gardner of Santa Fe, Missouri. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.  Both subjects had apparent gunshot wounds.  A firearm was recovered at the scene.  No evidence was discovered indicating anyone outside the home was involved in the incident.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.  The Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation and attempting to make sure all proper notifications have been made prior to releasing additional information.  At this time, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
