Arcadia Metalcraft announced on May 29, a new purchase order has been made for an aluminum casting component used in an automotive fluid transfer pump.

Arcadia Metalcraft, specializing in lighter die cast and precision-machined components across multiple alloys for automotive and other industries has created a new solution. This creative solution has earned the company a new production contract.

Arcadia Metalcraft announced on May 29, a new purchase order has been made for an aluminum casting component used in an automotive fluid transfer pump. The production solution delivers improved quality, faster cycle time, reduced cost per part, as well as lower tooling costs for a major fluid power pump provider used in Chrysler vehicles.

Vice Chairman of Arcadia Metalcraft, Graham Furse explained this could increase jobs in the future stating, “This is just the tip of the iceberg, we impressed the customer with the ability to provide lower tooling costs and now we are quoting six more parts for them.” Arcadia Metalcraft plans to absorb the first contract with the current employees, but foresees increasing employment in the future, providing more jobs for the area.

This new contract will increase the company’s sales by approximately $2 million with the production for up to 1.3 million casting components will begin in the fall of 2019. Arcadia Metalcraft’s new solution process achieves higher quality, faster cycle time and lower tooling costs for a total savings of $0.05 per part. “The contract is expected to be for an estimated 10 years for the company,” Furse shared.

By analyzing specific customer performance requirements and manufacturability of the casting component, Arcadia Metalcraft identified key areas of improvement. As a result, the die cast experts adjusted mold redundancies, secondary operations and die size to create a more efficient solution.

“Our design and production teams improved material flow and process tolerances by decreasing the number of cavities in the mold to improve the fill characteristics, which reduced scrap and increased mold output,” said Furse. “In the end, we developed a much more balanced and stable shot on a smaller and faster die cast machine for a smoother, faster process. The creativity behind this solution is a true testament to the value our teams bring customers.”
