“The day is what you make of it. You can have a good day or a bad day.” I heard this recently and it really stuck with me.
You can wake up in the morning, dreading getting out of bed and you can almost bet that your outlook on the day will be soured. It is a sentiment that can be expressed in an astounding number of ways. “The problem isn’t the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem,” commonly attributed to Captain Jack Sparrow. Or, “it is not what happens to you, but how you handle it.”
Endless expressions of the same idea, but I believe despite our best efforts sometimes the things that affects you are beyond your control. Often we are dealt the hand we have and we must simply play the game. A good ‘poker face’ can help sell your hand but it won’t change the fact that you got a bum draw.
To tie a number of loose ends into a single knot, it helps to have a positive outlook on life, but that alone cannot be enough to rely on. Sometimes we need help and we need to know that it is okay to reach out and ask for the help that we need.
