The Monroe City Track and Field teams had a very productive week at the track.  On Monday, March 25th, Monroe City hosted the Monroe City invitational.  The Lady Panthers earned the top spot in eight events.  Events winners were Emmalee Williams (400m/800m), Carly Youngblood (Pole Vault/100m Hurdles), Mackenzie Moss (Javelin), Audri Youngblood (300m Hurdles), and the 4x400m (Abigail Smith, Audri Youngblood, Meghan Hays, Emmalee Williams) and 4x800m (Audri Youngblood, Avery Johnson, Ella Hays, Emmalee Williams) relay.  Overall the Lady Panthers scored 202 total besting their closest competition by 58 points to claim the team title.  

On the boys’ side, the Panthers tallied nine first-place finishes.  Event winners were Gage Woolen (110m High Hurdles/300m Hurdles), Waylon DeGrave (Long Jump), Josiah Talton (Triple Jump), Joshua Walkup (Discus), Ceaton Pennewell (Javelin), and the 4x100 (Cameron Jones, Waylon DeGrave, Joshua Talton, Ceaton Pennewell), 4x200 (Cameron Jones, Jaylyn Countryman, Joshua Talton, Josiah Talton), 4x400 (Gage Woolen, Waylon DeGrave, Jaylyn Countryman, Josiah Talton) relay teams.  

The Gerald Mansfield Invitational saw the Boys team win five individual events and claim the team title.  Individual winners included Kabott Harlan (1600m), Waylon DeGrave (Long Jump) and the 4x100 (Cameron Jones, Waylon DeGrave, Gage Woolen, Ceaton Pennewell), 4x200 (Cameron Jones, Jaylyn Countryman, Elmer Martinez, Josiah Talton), 4x400 (Gage Woolen, Waylon DeGrave, Jaylyn Countryman, Josiah Talton) relay teams.

On the girls’ side, Emmalee Williams continued her dominance in the 800m winning the event by nearly four seconds over her closest opponent.  Carly Youngblood added another invitational title in the pole vault.  

Coach Kirby had this to say about the performances. “Our kids are performing well.  These meets have elevated our confidence levels as we head into the championship part of our season.”

The Panthers and Lady Panthers will compete in the Clarence Cannon Conference track meet hosted by Highland on May 3, 2022.  Field Events begin at 3 pm and running starts at 4 pm.
