On the heels of the first annual Youth Engagement and Scholarship Fun Night event, members of the board of the Monroe-Shelby County Cattlemen’s Association have awarded $6000 in scholarships to local students to assist with educational expenses. “We are very pleased to be able to reinvest proceeds from our event back into our local communities through deserving students who have a wide variety of career interests,” stated Marshall Gingrich, board member and scholarship chair. Plans are underway for the 2nd Annual Youth Engagement event on March 11, 2023, in Shelbina, Missouri according to Gingrich.
The Thomas L. Jones “Continuing the Legacy” Educational Scholarship is awarded in remembrance of Tom Jones who was a longtime Hereford breeder in Monroe County and a lifetime member of the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association. Mr. Jones was instrumental in the formation and livelihood of his local MCA affiliate and felt strongly about supporting youth in the community.
Jenna Hasekamp of Madison is a sophomore at North Central Missouri College in Trenton where she is pursuing her associates degree in Livestock Management and Agriculture Business. She is currently a member of the NCMC Livestock Evaluation team with plans to transfer to the University of Missouri to finish her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science.
Dylan McEwen of Leonard is a freshman at the University of Missouri-Columbia where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture with a focus on Agricultural Systems Technology. Dylan graduated from North Shelby High School in 2021 where he was active in FFA, FCA, and played football and band for four years.
Carlee Long of Paris is a 2021 graduate of Paris High School and is now attending the University of Missouri-Columbia where she is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business. Carlee was president of the Eager Beaver 4H Club, served as the Missouri Junior Shorthorn treasurer and as a Missouri Beef Ambassador.
Ashley Burke of Paris is a freshman at Moberly Area Community College where she is studying health care with the intention of receiving her RN degree. Ashley was involved in 4H and FFA while attending Paris High School prior to her graduation in 2021.
Hunter Stockhorst of Madison is a freshman at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, where she is majoring in Animal Science. Prior to graduating from Madison High School in 2021, Hunter was active in the Madison FFA Chapter, serving as a chapter officer and involved on numerous contest teams.
Aly Francis of Paris is a senior at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma where she is studying Agricultural Communications and Animal Science. She has been Vice President of the Oklahoma State Collegiate Cattlewomen and recently completed an internship with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association as well as the American International Charolais Association. She is employed by the Oklahoma State Foundation as a student intern during her final year of college.
