Monroe City defeated Louisiana 41-39 in the Consolation Championship of the Clopton
Tournament Friday Night. The Lady Panthers built a 24-19 lead at the half over the Lady Bulldogs. Monroe City led by as many as 11 in the 4th Quarter before Louisiana staged a late rally cutting the lead to two points with 2 seconds to play. Monroe City was able to inbound the ball and run clock out and preserve the victory. Meredith Gares led Monroe City with 18 points.
Taylor Pfaff had 8 points, with 6 of them coming in the 4th quarter. Lucy Pratt had 7 points.
Naan Hays added 6 point and Sam Hathaway rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
In the Consolation Semifinals, Monroe City overcame a slow first quarter on their way to a 53-21 victory over Mark Twain. The Lady Panthers used a 23-6 2nd Quarter to build a 32-13 halftime lead on their way to their third win over Mark Twain this season. Maridith Gares scored 17 points and Naaron added 16 points to lead Monroe City. Lucy Pratt had 7 points. Cahlin Chapman had 5 points. Sam Hathaway had 4 points, and Alivia Chinn and Avery Johnson each had 2 points.
Monroe City opened the tournament falling to the host Clopton Lady Hawks 58-39. The Lady Panthers opened the game on a 10-0 run before Clopton answered with an 8-0 run of their own.
Monroe City led the entire first half taking a 27-24 lead into halftime. However; Clopton came out and outscored Monroe City 18-6 to take a 42-33 lead into the fourth quarter. The momentum carried over into the 4th quarter and Monroe City was unable to get any closer.
Lucy Pratt had 10 points to lead the Lady Panther. Naaron Hays had 8 points. Cahlin Chapman and Audri Youngblood had 6 points each. Maridith Gares had 3 points. Taylor Pfaff, Myra Jones, and Alivia Chinn all had 2 points.
Freshman Naaron Hays was named to the 6-member All-Tournament team. Monroe City is 5-8 on the season and open conference play Friday Night when they travel to Clark County for a Varsity Girls and Boys doubleheader with the girls game starting at 6pm.
