The Monroe City Food Science Team competed at the FFA National Convention this year on Oct. 26. The MC Team came in ninth place and won Gold Team.
The team began practicing in January of this year for the district level competitions. In March they competed in their first qualifying contest. The team competed in five of these competitions and won first place in all of them. They competed for the district competition in April, the four students knew they needed to place within the top three to advance further into the competition, they came in first. They then competed at the State level and brought home first place.

“It’s just awesome to be in this position. From day one these guys made a goal, it was always a joke that they wanted to be last place at nationals, and I told them ‘Well you know what that means, you have to win state first’ and that’s exactly what they did,” Food Science Instructor, Keriann Brandt, said.
While the team did not win first place, they are still very proud, as is their chapter. The Monroe City FFA and FFA Alumni Facebook page shared photos of the team and announced their congratulations to the team publicly.
“We are so proud of these four individuals for taking the Food Science CDE to the National Level for our Chapter! After competing yesterday one last time, they placed 9th in the Nation and were a Gold Team!! Congratulations Beau, Rose, Maddie, and Katie on your accomplishment,” they said.
