Monroe City Defense Sends Panthers To Tony Lenzini Tournament Semi’s

This would be the second time Monroe City and Hannibal would play each other in a week’s time. The first meeting at Monroe City on January 10th when the Panthers won 50-39.
Monroe City would trail 7-6 after the first quarter and take a halftime lead 17-16. Both teams would pick up scoring in the 3rd quarter with Hannibal leading 30-29 heading into the 4th quarter.
It was an edge of your seat fourth quarter as both teams traded baskets and capitalized on the other teams miscues. With 11 seconds left in the game the Pirates would inbound from under the Monroe City basket and draw a foul with 5 seconds left on Jaylyn Countryman who would leave the game with his 5th foul. The Pirates would make the first free-throw. The second free throw was missed and ended with a jump ball on the rebound in Hannibal’s favor. Monroe City defended their own basket on a baseline out of bounds play with 2.5 seconds left in the game to win 42-41.
Reece Buhlig led the Panthers with 25 points. Jaylyn Countryman added 7 points, Ryan Moss 5 points, Quincy Mayfield 4 points, and Toby Sapp made a free-throw.
The Panthers will face the Van-Far Indians in the second round of the Tony Lenzini Tournament.
