We live in a world of hurt and disillusionment

and every kind of pain known to man.

The sorrows around us beg for solutions

that mortals promise, but nobody can.

Yet hearts can still sing of one perfect King

who came to redeem what is lost.

And all these years later our only hope continues

to be the transforming work of the cross.

There is nothing as beautiful as a sinner who comes

to Jesus, truly broken by their sin,

As they cast all their hope on the finished work of Christ

and let salvation start a change from within.

The mind of a man sometime’s whispers, “I can”

bring an offering or something to appease.

Yet Christ looks away from prideful, paltry efforts

to the desperate soul down on his knees.

True lasting peace is not an elusive dream

nor is it merely no trouble for the hour.

Rather it is knowing by faith you’re forgiven

by a Savior who possesses that power.

The message of the cross in its pure form from heaven

is still the answer for every age of mankind.

He’s a personal King who restores and redeems

by changing lives one heart at a time.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,

but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.
