South Lake was the popular place to be for several young fishermen in the area. The Pleasant Day 4-H Club, of Marion County, hosted the fourth annual Kids Fishing Derby on June 17. There were 34 children registered for the event. Each child was divided in three age divisions and competed for biggest, smallest and most fish awards in their division.
This event was free of charge but required the children to be pre-registered earlier in the week. Donations of a new or barely used stuffed animal were encouraged but not required to be given to the Monroe City Police Department, First Responders, Ambulance District and Fire Department to support the 4-H’s project “Help us Help Our Local Hero’s drive” for the second year in a row.
