Welker recognized as Cross County Official of the Year 2017

The National Federation of High School Track Officials, and the Missouri State High School Activities Association honored Charley Welker, a former Monroe City High Track and Football coach in the 60›s and 70›s, and current Registered Official as the Missouri 2017 Cross Country Official of the Year.

The award was presented at the Missouri State Cross Country Meet held in Jefferson City in November 2017. The award was presented to Welker by Don Maurer, the executive director of Track and Field and Cross County for MSHSAA during the Class 2 awards presentation at the State Meet. Welker was accompanied at the presentation with his wife Cora Sue.

Welker has been an active Cross-Country Official and Track and Field Official for over 35 years and was officiating the state meet this year as well as other regular meets throughout the state.

Since his Coaching retirement in 1979, Welker has been a familiar face to numerous Track and Field Meets throughout the state and has currently been the Head Field Event Referee at the Class 1 & 2 and also the Class 3, 4 and 5 in Jefferson City in May of each year.

Charley and Cora Sue have resided in Monroe City since 1966.
