Rita Gertrude Troy Mayfield, 88, of Monroe City, MO, passed away at 8:15 PM, Thursday, February 13, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Monroe City, MO.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the O’Donnell-Thurman Life Celebration Home in Monroe City, MO. Pastor(s) Paul Washington and Ed Talton will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Jude’s Cemetery in Monroe City, MO
Friends and Family are invited to Rita’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 12:00 PM am to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Donnell-Thurman Life Celebration Home in Monroe City, MO.
Rita was born June 29, 1936, in Monroe City, MO to Edgar Troy and Pearl Amanda Dickerson Troy. Rita was married to William Frank Mayfield on September 8, 1951. He preceded her in death January 28, 2014.
Survivors include her children, Harold Franklin (Joy) Mayfield of Hannibal, MO, Ronald Gene Mayfield of Keokuk, IA, Pearl Eileen Harris of Quincy, IL, Nelrece (Larry) Camp of Monroe City, MO, Melvin Cornelius (Barbara) Mayfield of Hannibal MO, Carmen Jenette Mayfield of Hannibal, MO, Dorothy Levon Mayfield of Hannibal MO, Steven Lathen Mayfield of Monroe City, MO, Janice Lynn (Kevin) Holliday of Monroe City, MO, 30 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, sister, Geneice Nash, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Rita was preceded by her parents, husband, infant daughter, sisters, Dorothy Mayfield, and Delores Davis.
Rita attended Washington School in Monroe City MO.
Known for her unwavering dedication and compassion, Rita’s career was marked by her remarkable 41-year tenure as a supervisor at the Monroe City Sheltered Workshop, where she poured her heart into supporting individuals with special needs.
Throughout her life, Rita embraced a variety of roles with grace, including positions at Henderson Chicken factory, Boron Turkey Factory, Deluxe Cafe, and as one of the pioneering staff at Head Start. Her interests were as diverse as her career, finding joy in simple pleasures like walking, savoring coffee, and engaging in the teachings of Joyce Meyers. A fan of Wheel of Fortune and Gospel music, Rita’s enthusiasm was infectious, especially in her love for attending church.
Rita’s legacy is one of kindness and openness; she never met a stranger and approached everyone with a giving spirit. Her memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Pallbearers will be Andre White, Brent Holland, Little Kent Holland, Ernie Pigford, Marcus Summers, Dewayne White, Carl Mayfield, and Eric Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will be LaMont White, Donald Evans, Roger Manley, Tyler White, Tyson Smith, Victor Mayfield, Jerome Mayfield, Tony Mayfield, and Derrick Mayfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to O’Donnell-Thurman to assist with funeral expenses.
