JOANNE B. SPALDING

JoAnne B. Spalding, 93, of Monroe City, MO, passed away at 8:05 AM, Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Monroe City Manor Care Center in Monroe City, MO.
 A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 PM, Saturday, March 1, 2025, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Indian Creek, MO. Fr. Greg Oligschlaeger and Deacon Bob Wochner will officiate. Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Monroe City, MO.
 Friends and Family are invited to JoAnne’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the O’Donnell-Thurman Life Celebration Home in Mon­roe City, MO.
 Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Donnell-Thurman Life Celebration Home in Mon­roe City, MO.
 JoAnne was born May 19, 1931, in Springfield IL to Herman Joseph Bruseke and Mary Ellen Barnes Bruseke. JoAnne was married to James E. “Jim” Spalding on May 31, 1954, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield, IL. He preceded her in death July 5, 2022.
 She is survived by three daughters, Julie Leake, of Monroe City MO, Jane (Keith) Crowe of Hunnewell MO, Joni (Steve) Karr of Talkeetna AK, and one son, James (Diana) E Spalding Jr. of Olathe, KS. Eleven grandchildren Aaron (Tonya) Crowe, of Kansas City KS, Emily King (Steven Rodgers) of New London MO, Adam (Jamie) Crowe of Fremont NE, Valerie (Chris) Caldwell of Center MO, Adair Crowe (Dawn Hagan) of Monroe City, Lauren (David) Spataro of Carlsbad, California, Karen (Scott) Hannaford of Olathe KS, Nik (Lisa) Schroff of Kirksville MO, Matt Karr (Ashley Jahn) of Ridgefield, Washington, Charlie Karr of Talkeetna AK. and Emily Leake of Monroe City MO., 15 great-grandchildren, 5 Step-great-grandchildren, 2 Step Great-Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
 JoAnne was preceded by her parents, husband, Jim, of 68 years, two favorite aunts, Margaret Barnes and Agnes McLaughlin, her sister Mary Jeanne Wochner of Mountain Home AR, three brothers-in-laws, John F. Spalding, Dr. Joseph Spalding, Joe Wochner and one sister-in-law Mary Spalding.
 JoAnne graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield IL in 1949. She graduated with honors and received her BS degree in Pharmacy from St Louis College of Pharmacy in St. Louis MO in June 1953.
 Early in her career as a registered Pharmacist JoAnne started the pharmacy at Levering Hospital and worked as a relief pharmacist in the neighboring communities of Hannibal, Paris, Palmyra, Louisiana, and Moberly. She was co-owner with her husband of Spalding Pharmacy in Monroe City, MO, from 1961-1984.
 When her children were young, she served on many school committees and worked on many projects for Holy Rosary Church, Fidelis Club, Businessmen’s Assoc., Sheltered Workshop, and Chamber of Com­merce. She was also a Girl Scout Leader.
 Moving to Arizona in 1988 she became an active member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharist Minister and organized the Newcomers parties. She joined and worked on many projects for the Hand Weavers and Spinners Guild, the Lakes Club, and the Missouri Club. She also volun­teered at the Sundome, Boswell Hospital, Bell Library Writing Group, and delivered Meals on Wheels. Upon moving back to Missouri, she delivered meals for the Nutrition Center and volunteered at the Hannibal Regional Hospital and was a member of the auxiliary.
 JoAnne loved to entertain, her home was a hub of laughter, a place where friends and family gathered for dominos, bridge, and countless other games she would teach her grandchildren. She enjoyed being around the water, whether swimming or boating, and had fond memories of her numerous trips including England, Ireland, Hawaii, Arizona, and many others. She was a lover of horses either in a sleigh, buggy, or on horseback in her early years. Joanne also enjoyed the solace of reading and knitting but above all the love of family and her faith brought her the most joy.
 A meal will be held immediately following at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Monroe City, MO.
 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Rosary Church or the Monroe City Manor Care Center Auxiliary.
