Unfinished business, that is what the Undefeated 14-0 Panthers of Monroe City could call next Saturday’s encounter with Valle Catholic of St. Genevieve (12-1) as the Panther’s down the Bulldogs of East Buchanan in a humane 28-14 score in front of a packed Lankford Field.
With temperatures in the middle to upper 30’and add in a wind that was gusting upwards of 35 mph, wind chills at times in the 20’s before the wind laid down in the second half. It came down to defenses and who could make the big plays on both sides of the ball.
Let’s start late in the fourth quarter when the Bulldogs last score came after about a 3:20 drive to within one touchdown, 20-14, with 5:56 in the fourth quarter. It wasn’t the first big play of the game for the Panthers, but probably the most important, but it was a series of small ones that wrapped the game up for the Panthers.
When after a failed onside kick, Monroe took over at midfield realizing East Buchanan’s passing game could move the ball quickly down field for a possible tying if not winning touchdown. Monroe was up for the challenge.
