On November 15, Monroe City R-1 High School senior and Lady Panther softball catcher signed a letter of intent with Missouri S&T to follow in her father’s footsteps. Family, friends and teammates gathered in the front lobby to watch as Rachel Smith committed to further her softball career at the college level.
Her parents, Greg and Courtney Smith, sat beside their daughter, as she signed with the college. Smith shared, “I want to be a Chemical Engineer like my father. He went to school at MO S&T,” as she smiled and admitted she looks up to her Dad a lot. Smith choose to major in Chemical Engineering from watching her father.
Smith visited the campus a couple of times and attended softball camp at MO S&T. She stated, “I really enjoyed the coach and girls on the softball team.” She explained she is looking forward to being a part of the team and meeting new people. Smith said, “I like to see new things, the transition will be easier because I will already know some girls on my team. It will be home away from home.”
