The Monroe City R-1 Elementary and Holy Rosary second grade D.A.R.E. classes traveled to the Monroe City Manor Care Center on December 18 to deliver gifts for the all the residents.
Earlier in the month, D.A.R.E. Officer, Brian Walters, explained the children had learned about community and helping out with the needs of others. The Socks for Seniors campaign was created to have the youth active in giving to others and respecting the seniors of the community.
Each second-grade class made Christmas cards and handed out a stocking stuffed with items the residents can use for the activities of everyday living.
As the second graders arrived, the students all gathered in the front lobby to sing Christmas carols led by Ms. Shannon Quinn. The residents listened as they performed traditional songs for the holiday season.
