School Board hires local vocal music teacher

Mr. Austin Long, Monroe City Alumni, was approved to be hired as the new high school vocal music teacher for the 2017-18 school year. Long is a Monroe City native and currently resides in Kennett. Long teaches general and vocal music at Hayti R-II School District. He is the son of School Board President Dennis Long and wife Donna. The resignation was accepted for elementary teacher Mrs. Karen Kendrick during regular the school board meeting held Feb. 13. Kendrick’s plan is to stay at home with her children and stated “I enjoy teaching and plan to return after my years home with kids in the meantime, I plan to continue to substitute teach. It will help financially and keep me in the loop on school changes and such.”
