Retired art teacher receives top national exhibition award

Brenda Benson received the top $3000 Kenneth M. Shuck Memorial Award for her watercolor artwork named “Purely Spectral” as well as a $300 Award of Excellence from the U.S.A. Honor Society.

The Award of Excellence was given to Benson’s watercolor artwork named “From the Ashes”. This is the fifty-sixth national competitive annual exhibition of aqueous media painting, Watercolor U.S.A 2017, and opens for display in the Springfield Art Museum on June 3. A reception will be hosted by the Southwest Missouri Museum Associates on June 2 from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Watercolor U.S.A. 2017 will be on display and continue through August 27.
