Rehearsals are set to begin for the 2015 fall season of the Monroe City Singers. Sept. 17 will be the first meeting of the group that meets from 6-8 p.m. weekly on Thursday nights at the United Methodist Church in Monroe City.
The group rehearses a variety of secular and sacred choral music selections in preparation for its annual Christmas Concert, tentatively scheduled for Dec. 6.
In addition, the group sings at the Monroe City Community Thanksgiving Service on the evening of Nov. 23.
Music performed by the Singers includes standard, classic, and pop songs in a cappella and accompanied choral settings.
The Singers are a non-auditioned group of approximately 50 members and draw on several area communities for its membership. Basic music reading ability is helpful, but a desire to sing is the most important criteria.
Todd Richman of Monroe City will be returning as the director of the group. Accompanists will be Marsha Crowley and Hedy Rothfuss. Feel free to contact group president, Bonnie Berrey if you have questions. We hope to see you there on Sept. 17.
