On Saturday May 13, a group of 33 Veterans from the surrounding local area boarded a bus in Quincy, IL to take the forty-second mission trip for the Great River Honor Flight Program. Of the 33 Veterans, local Veteran Wayne Porter and his daughter, Melissa Gann, as guardian were a part of this opportunity.
Porter a member of the VFW Post 4240 for nearly 40 years stated humbly “I don’t want this to be just about me but for the patriotism of our United States Military and the service that has been given and continues to be given today”.
In Porters three years in the Army he earned the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Leaf, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with one overseas bar, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Badge M-60 Machine Gun and a Marksman Badge M-14 and M-16 Rifle.
