The Monroe City Panthers entered Lankford Field Friday night with one goal, to take the District Championship Title and continue their undefeated record. The opposing South Shelby Cardinals arrived just as excited hoping to advance their season on November 3. The game would prove to show the Panthers are a talented team having several valuable players making the victory a team effort. As the first quarter opened up, the Panthers would kick to the Cardinals and cause the Red Birds to fumble, with South Shelby recovering to keep possession of the ball. Then in the second attempt South Shelby moves into the end zone, making the first touchdown of the game. The attempt for the two-point conversion was good but would prove to be the only extra two points the Cardinals could make for the rest of the game. Next, the Panthers wasted no time as they took control of the ball. A hand-off to Sophomore Keenan Batsell would allow him to break loose through the defensive line and score a touchdown for the Panthers. Junior Blake Hays made the two-point conversion bringing the score to a tie with 8-8.
As the Cardinals took their turn at a chance to make their way down the field, Monroe City held the defensive line against them putting pressure on the Cardinals. Senior Lineman Alex Wilson intercepted the ball bringing the Panthers offense back to the field.
