Janice Kendrick drops off unused prescription drugs to her daughter, Janet Shriver, of the NEMO Task Force.

The Northeast Missouri Task Force held a drug take back event on October 26 at the Monroe City Nutrition Center. The NEMO Task Force has been participating in the program for approximately seven years. This year they were able to remove 187.5 pounds of non-prescription and prescription drugs off the streets at five collection stations across the region. Since 2010, the NEMO Task Force has provided 58 stations allowing over 2,400 pounds of unused medications to be removed during the take-back events.
Janet Shriver, Administrative Assistant, of the NEMO Task Force stated, “The goal is to remove unused prescription drugs off the streets in an effort to prevent drug abuse.”
The public was able to drop off their medications in a collection box. The NEMO Task Force will then transport them back to the Marion County Police Department to be inventoried.
