Cross Country Long Distant Running is now a sport that is offered to the local area for the youth ages six to 14 years old. The Paris Coyotes have started a Youth Cross Country team with practices to start the week of August 7. The team will consist of four age divisions 6 to 8-year-old running a 2K, 9 to 10-year-old and 11 to 12-year-old running a 3K and the 13 to 14-year-old running a 4K. This is the first year the sport will be offered to the area with the team based in Paris and offered to Monroe City, Shelbina, Madison and Holiday youth.
The team will be coached by Doug Buie and Tommy Wormington, both of Paris. Buie is a volunteer assistant coach for the Paris High School Track & Field coaching distant and holds a degree in Physical Education. Wormington is experienced in distance running and competes in meets.
