On March 3, the Paris High School Gym was filled with Monroe County Cancer Supporters and residents for the eighth annual Blow Cancer Away Fundraiser. The event is scheduled each year rotating between Madison, Paris and Monroe City. This year the event brought more items up for bid than the previous year and raised $54,675. The entire gym was filled with tables that lined the floor and people to support the cause. All proceeds raised go to help Monroe County residents battling cancer, with all monies committed to staying in the county and distributed to help the residents in need.
Upon arrival, the silent auction was open for bids. At 5 p.m. the doors opened for the evening event. At 6 p.m. a meal was served in the cafeteria and was available to all by a free will donation. On the menu was sliced pork loin, potato casserole, green beans, corn, coleslaw and rolls. Along with dinner there were several desserts to finish off the meal.
