On Friday, Feb. 16, 15 Monroe City R-1 athletes were recognized for athletic careers. Including, Brad Cheek, Jess Greiman, Michael Ryan, Emma Wilson and Ashlin Wisdom. Students and parents lined the entire span of the gymnasium during intermission of the Varsity games.
The Monroe City R-1 Seniors, along with their parents and loved ones were recognized at Friday nights basketball game on February 16, against the Macon Tigers. At the intermission of the varsity games, Principal Ryan Watson announced each Senior along with who was escorting them to the center of the court. Each player gave their mother a flower prior to walking out on the court to receive a certificate from their coaches. Athletes in basketball, cheerleading and the dance team were honored for the dedication to athletics through their high school career.
The girls’ basketball team is coached by Head Coach Cody Leonard and Assistant Coaches Jamar White and Todd Lee. The seniors on the team were Madison Hays, Delanie Okenfuss, Emilie Okenfuss, Taylor Shuck, Haleigh St. Clair and Olivia Shuck. The boys’ basketball team, which is coached by Head Coach Brock Edris and Assistant Coaches Tanner Buckman, Ed Talton and Rick Baker, who recognized their senior players. The seniors recognized on the team were Brad Cheek, Jess Greiman and Michael Ryan.
