The Mayors Cup will remain in Monroe City Panther territory for at least one more year, as Monroe City traveled away to defeat Palmyra on October 19 and share the Clearance Cannon Conference victory with Macon. It was a Panther battle between the two rival football teams which packed the stands as fans came to watch the annual Mayor’s Cup game.
As the Monroe City football team entered the field, the Monroe City Panthers showed their plan to victory by sticking a black and gold Panther Fan flag in the middle of the opposing teams field. Nolan Pennewell led the Panthers in their traditional pre-game chant before the players headed to the sidelines to start the game.
Meeting in the middle of the field for the coin toss were Keenan Batsell, Zach Osborn, Blake Hays and Jonathon Saxbury, along with Head Coach David Kirby and Monroe City Mayor John Long. Palmyra won the coin toss and elected to receive, letting the battle begin.
