The Monroe City R-1 School district held a Veteran’s Day Assembly for all grades and was open to the public on November 12. The assembly was held in honor of all our local United States Military both active and retired.
High School Principal John Fortney opened the assembly and asked everyone to stand to their feet in honor of all who had served. The Monroe City High School Choir sang “Who Are the Brave” directed by Mr. Austin Long as the Veterans walked in. Each veteran was escorted by their family members including grandchildren, children and wives.
After everyone was seated, Principal Fortney, asked everyone to rise to their feet as the band played the Star-Spangled Banner. Air Force Veteran and owner of The Monroe Family Restaurant, Tammi Latafoski carried in the American Flag for the presentation of colors.
