The first reading for the new ordinance concerning appointments made by the Mayor were read on June 6, during a regular City Council meeting. The new ordinance will allow the Mayor to appoint officers who live outside of the Monroe City limits and will not need to be a registered voter of the City.
The new ordinance will be read at the next two consecutive meetings in order to give the public a chance to voice their opinions with any concerns they may have about the new ordinance being passed.
The new ordinance stems from an earlier meeting held on May 17 and 24 concerning the meaning of the current ordinance. All appointments were accepted except the city attorney appointment on May 17.
