The Monroe City High School celebrated their football homecoming on September 29. The evening crowning proved to be remarkably emotional for many as seniors Chase Buckman and Lauren Peters took their titles as royalty voted on by the strudent body. There were candidates from each class selected. In the freshman class, Makenzie McMurdo escorted by Logan Buhlig. For the sophomore class, Bailee Hays and Spencer Fuller. The juniors were represented by Elizabeth Falls and Lance Williams. The senior class had two candidates which were Delanie Okenfuss escorted by Dawson Shively and Lauren Peters escorted by Chase Buckman. Each of the candidates walked down the 50 yard-line to take their place during the half-time show of Friday night’s game against Paris.
The Monroe City football team stayed on the field to watch the royalty be crowned. As Chase Buckman was announced Homecoming King there were cheers from his teammates, classmates and crowd all clapping with excitement showing love for their peer. Next, as Lauren Peters was announced Homecoming Queen, everyone cheered and clapped as well, as Lauren waved to the crowd with a huge smile on her face. As the two received their crowns and sashes to take center for pictures, many were seen shedding tears of happiness for this year’s homecoming royalty. It was noted with appreciation by many, the selfless act of kindness, in both Paris and Monroe City from all ages.
