The Monroe City Nutrition Center had a packed house on August 22 with 67 guests in attendance for the Monroe County Democrat Club meeting held in the evening. The guest speaker was Monroe City native, Representative Kip Kendrick. He addressed the crowd gathered to explain the struggles being faced in Jefferson City.
Kendrick informed there have been 105 cuts across the state in higher education. He noted the student debt is a growing problem which could diminish the buying power of future generations. Kendrick shared his ideas he has put forth with three different bills concerning this issue. The bills would help to reduce student loan interest, create a work-study program for paid internships to pay down student debt and help find jobs.
