The announcement of Alderman Michael Purol resigning his position as Ward I Alderman on October 1 was first on the agenda after the Pledge of Allegiance opened the City Council meeting on October 5. The resignation of his office is required related to Purol moving out of the City. Purol served on the board for the prior three years. Mayor Neal Minor thanked him for his service and presented him with a plaque.
Next Mayor Minor appointed Jeremy Moss as the replacement for Ward 1 Alderman to complete the unexpired term of Michael Purol. The appointment passed 3:1. Long made the motion to approve, and Thompson seconded it. Long, Thompson and Viloria were all in favor with Painter opposed and Osbourne abstaining.
After executive session, the decision was passed for Officer Travis Pugh to be promoted to Interim Captain with a pay raise of $1.40 per hour as of October 6.
In open forum, Courtney Benson addressed the board requesting authorization to have a mad dash 5K run/walk on October 14 with the route being the same as last year. Permission was given with all in favor.
